Uch Sharif-Punjab

Pakistan is located where South Asia meets with Middle East and Central Asia. This country is located beside the Arabian Sea. With beautiful landscape, great food and entertainment this country is a country of rich cultural and historical heritage. Uch Sharif-Punjab is an important historical and archaeological site in Pakistan.

Uch Sharif is located in Punjab in Pakistan. Uch is a historical city of ancient India. It is said that Alexander the Great founded this city of Alexandria in 325 BC where Indus River last meets with Punjab rivers. So Uch is also referred to as “Alexandria at the Head of the Punjab.”
However the Embassy of Pakistan has a different version about the foundation of Uch. According to the version, Uch was founded around 500 BC. According to some historians Uch existed when Buddhists and Jains ruled there before the advent of Bikramjit. Hindu king ruled Uch when Alexander invaded India.
Uch was conquered by Muhammed bin Qasim. During Muslim rule Uch was a famous center of Islamic studies.

There are many shrines in Uch Sharif. The number is so great that it is said every inch of Uch ground is occupied by a Saint’s grave. Two Sayyids families are in Uch Sharif, the jilani and the Bukhari. Makhdoom Sher Shah Jalal-u-Din Surkh Posh Bukhari was the famous Bukhari Saint whose shrine is most venerated in Uch Sharif. He was born in 595 Hijri. This tomb has many adjoining tombs with domes. The first domed tomb was built by Jahaniyan Jahangasht for Baha’al-Halim, his teacher. Jahaniyan Jahangasht was a renowned Suharwardiya Sufi Saint. The second tomb is for the great granddaughter of Jahaniyan Jahangasht, Bibi Jawindi.
Apart from Uch Sharif-Punjab there are many archaeological sites in Pakistan like Thatta Sindh, Takht-i-Bahi, Taxila, Mohenjodaro, Mehergarh in Beluchistan, Kot Diji in Sindh, Jamal Ghari-NWFP, Chaukundi Tombs in Sindh, Rohtas Fort in Punjab, Butkara Stupa in Punjab and Banbhore in Sindh.
