Takht-i-Bahi- NWFP

Pakistan is a land of historical grandeur, a country located beside the Arabian Sea. This is the land of rich cultural heritage. During your tour to Pakistan visit the archaeological sites of the country. Takht-i-Bahi- NWFP is one of the most interesting archaeological sites in Pakistan.

Takht-i-Bahi- NWFP is located in Mardan District in Pakistan. Mardan district is located in North-West Frontier Province. Takht-i-Bahi- NWFP is in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is the remains from a renowned Buddhist monastery belonging to the 1st century CE. The word ‘Takht’ refers to throne and ‘bahi’ refers to ‘spring’ or ‘water’ in Urdu and Persian. This Buddhist monastery was built on top of a hill beside a stream.

In Mardan division Takht Bahi is the most fertile region. Apart from Takht-i-Bahi there is the first sugar mill in Asia built by the British Government.

The nearby localities of Takht-i-Bahi- NWFP are also interesting. Visit the historical places like Sher Garh Charsadda Sehri-Bahloland and Lund Khwar villages lying near Takht-i-Bahi. These places have remains of Buddha and are archaeologically very important. Proper excavation in these regions will bring forth new riches from the yore.

Another ancient fortified city which is quite famous in this area is ‘Sir Bahlol’, the name different people explain in different ways. In the opinions of local people “Sir Bahlol” denotes a word of Hindi language and is the name of a famous religious and political leader of the region. The town of Sehri Bahlol is older than the name. This place boasts of a beautiful landscape with surroundings of verdant green and is situated on a hillock.
